Hello parents of Somers Soccer,
I wanted to inform everyone about some changes we are making to 3rd - 6th grade soccer in town starting this Fall (Sept 2021).  We will still continue to offer travel soccer at these ages, but our Mid Rec program will now partner with the Enfield Soccer Association for grades 3 - 6.  

The reason for this change (and many small towns are doing this now) is because we have struggled to get enough kids at these ages to have two teams, never mind an actual league.  This will allow kids who may not be ready for travel yet to continue to learn, develop, and improve their soccer skills.  It will allow those kids who want to practice, and play at a less competitive environment the option to do so.

I have looked back at the numbers for the past 3 years, and we have averaged right around 20 total sign ups from grades 3 - 6.  With teams playing 7 v 7 at this age it barely allows us to make two teams, never mind develop a league.  There are some Spring seasons where we don't even have enough players to field teams.  The Enfield Soccer Association is a much larger progam, and kids play at their own age levels (3rd/4th and 5th/6th).  We were having Somers 3rd graders play against 6th graders in the past.  The age gap makes it very difficult to learn/develop as all kids progress at different ages.  The players will also have a league to join as there will be more than 2 teams to play at each age group.

Games are currently played right across the town line at the Lego Fields on Shaker Rd.  I have been assured by the Enfield Soccer Association Board that they will do their very best to keep the Somers kids on certain teams just in case carpooling is needed.

There will be an option for those in town who want to practice only.  This fall we are also partnering with a Futsal program.  This will be held in town on Monday or Tuesday nights for 7 weeks.  It will be one hour of training, and there will not be any games on the weekends.  For those of you who are not familiar with Futsal it is more of a training/skills program to better improve your dribbling and touch on the ball.  The actual start date here has not been finalized, and the week day and time have not been finalized either.  The cost of this program will be $60 per child.  We will also be adding this information to our website.
